Biomedical Equipment TechnicianEarn your Associates of Applied Science Degree
The Biomed Program at MedQuest offers students an opportunity to earn their Associates Degree of Applied Science in Biomedical Equipment Technology. During the two-year commitment, students are taught in a fully functioning lab that includes several medical equipment devices, where they will learn using hands on training led by a Biomedical Engineer. In addition, they will learn basic and advanced electronics concepts within the lab setting, where electronics tools and kits are utilized to build and troubleshoot different analog and digital circuits. In addition to the practical work conducted in campus, students are sent out to externship sites where they will put their on campus training to work while continuing to learn by working with seasoned Biomedical Engineers and Technicians.
The responsibilities of a Biomedical Equipment Technician include performing maintenance and safety checks, keeping repair logs, calibrating equipment, and testing parts on machines such as defibrillators and electronic wheelchairs. They are also responsible for reviewing training manuals and teaching medical professionals how to operate equipment such as monitors, imaging equipment, and operating tables. The sense of urgency for a Biomedical Equipment Technician will need to be a top priority. There are instances where a technician can be called into the operating room to repair vital equipment needed to continue a lifesaving procedure.
Prior to graduation from the Biomedical Equipment Technology program, each technician will meet with our career services department to create a professional cover letter and resume that will go in your portfolio you will use for interviewing. Career Services offers students the opportunity to practice interviewing skills, ask for advice on upcoming interviews, and provide a list of job openings in your field. We are there for our students for the lifetime of their career! It is just another way MedQuest is helping to Better Your Life!
