The Comprehensive Dental Assisting program is designed to prepare the student to become a multiskilled Dental Assistant in the front office or working with the dentist. Externship
Prior to graduation, students are required to complete an externship under the guidance of area experts. During this externship, students will refine the skills learned on campus as well as work directly with patients for real-life experience.
Career Services
Our Career Services Director provides assistance to graduating students and alumni that include instruction in resume writing, preparation of cover letters, interviewing techniques and networking skills. The college provides job placement assistance for its graduates. Alumni in good standing may continue to use any and all placement resources indefinitely at no charge.
WHAT IS A DENTAL ASSISTANT?
Dental Assisting students graduate from MedQuest College’s Comprehensive Dental Assisting program, located in Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky, with the skills and training needed to perform the responsibilities of an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA), giving each student an edge when starting their new career. EDDA’s are trained to work in all types of Dental Offices, including specialty practices, working alongside the Dentist and Dental Hygienist to perform a vast array of procedures. WHAT DOES AN EXPANDED DUTIES DENTAL ASSISTANT DO?
MedQuest Dental Assistants are highly trained and skilled to perform a large range of tasks from front office duties such as communicating with patients and suppliers to assisting the dental hygienist and dentist with procedures including surgery.
Expanded Duties Dental Assistant responsibilities:
- Operate dental X-ray equipment to provide the dentist with dental radiographs
- Create dental models that will be used to make patient impressions
- Apply sealants, fluoride varnish, and coronal polishing
- Fill cavities by placing and condensing amalgam and composite
- Fabricate and place temporary crowns
- Record patient medical history, blood pressure and pulse
