Training is convenient on our Louisville Kentucky campus. But what do medical assistants actually do? Under the supervision of a physician or other health care provider, the medical assistant performs a number of clinical and administrative duties. On the clinical side they vary according to state laws but usually include preparing patients for examination, explaining procedures to patients, and assisting during diagnostic examinations among other tasks. Basic on-premise laboratory tests and sterilizing medical instruments are all part of the daily routine. Duties can also include drawing blood, taking electrocardiograms and removing sutures.

On the administrative side tasks range from greeting patients to managing medical records, from answering phones to scheduling appointments and arranging for hospital admission.

Salaries vary from state to state, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics noting that mean annual wages are over $28,000.
